South Australia’s built and maritime heritage places are a diverse mix of buildings, structures and sites located across all regions of the State. They provide tangible links to the events and people that have shaped South Australia’s history and development.
The South Australian Heritage Register contains entries for more than 2000 places of State heritage significance, while the SA Shipwrecks Database records approximately 800 shipwrecks in South Australian coastal and inland waters.
Increased public awareness and appreciation of their significance, through on-site, electronic and print interpretation, is integral to the long-term protection of these valuable heritage assets.
