The Department for Environment and Heritage
(DEH),
on behalf of the Minister for Environment and Conservation,
provides extensive advice to Councils, planning authorities, owners
and the general community. Advice is also provided through publications
and Heritage Conservation Seminars. The agency also has a large
collection of Conservation
Management Plans (100Kb PDF) which
are available for inspection but not for loan.
In addition, the Heritage Advisory Service,
which services many local Councils, provides professional heritage
advice to local communities, including advice to individual owners.
The Burra Charter is the nationally
accepted standard for heritage conservation practice in Australia.
Development Advice
The Development
Act 1993 requires all development applications affecting
State Heritage Places and State Heritage Areas to be referred to
the Minister responsible for the Heritage Places Act 1993.
DEH
Conservation Architects and Heritage Advisers (who service some
local Councils) advise the Minister and in some instances, act as
the Minister's delegate regarding commenting on and approving applications
for development of heritage places.
